A week of excitement and anticipation has finally been relieved with an early morning flight to Auckland with connections to Queenstown.
I have packed and unpacked my bags literally 3 times in the last 4 days. I couldn’t decide if I needed a medium or large sized suitcase (I normally travel super light but it is quite cold in southern New Zealand in Autumn). In the end after attempting to squeeze everything into a smaller bag I opted to go large and so then of course filled all the spare space with extra clothing items. Now that I am here I am questioning if I have perhaps brought a little too much, however it is not dawn and I am inside.
The challenge came in trying to get all of the camera gear into one bag that was acceptable as a carry-on. In itself not a problem until I tried to add a laptop. My normal camera bag has no space for a laptop and I was thinking that in the end I would have to try to throw the computer into my handbag and hope for the best. Thankfully I have a lifesaver friend who offered me the use of her camera bag complete with laptop pocket. Problem solved. The bag weighed in at 9.7kg fully packed which is a worry when the airport folks are adamant that 7kg is the limit. Mention the magic word “computer” and it seems that all is forgiven. Loving being on the road again. Makes my feet itch with desire to keep on travelling.
Certainly looking forward to meeting my fellow photographers tomorrow and sharing my experiences.
Sorry for the rubbishy photo but I am definitely not an iphone-ographer.
