Rodeo riders

The last couple of weeks have been a busy time in this household so very little time to get out and play with the camera so I thought I might just have a look through the archives and see what caught my eye.

Something many people may not know is that I grew up with rodeo riders in the family. One of the cousins was a bronc rider and I recall quite vividly as a little girl being totally captivated by the daring and excitement of the men, women, bulls and horses. It was all so thrilling to watch. I have been to a few rodeos as an adult and I have to say that the experience was not lessened by age.

In September 2009 I was staying up at Mount Tamborine in the Gold Coast hinterland for a weekend dedicated to photography and while I was there got the chance to photograph a rodeo. It was heaven on a stick for a new learner photographer. So many new just learnt skills put to good use. A few years later a girlfriend and I went to the Kingaroy rodeo to try my hand again. It certainly was a lot easier than the first time I tried it (turns out the skill set solidifies with time 😉 ).

The photos below are a collection of a few of the shots I got from both rodeo experiences. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.

Oh yeah – and for anyone interested I am running another beginners workshop on Sunday 15th December. 🙂 Cheers.
